What are yoni eggs? What are the benefits and how to use them safely
Are you one of the many women who have heard of and are now curious about yoni eggs? Since antiquity, the practice of yoni eggs has been recorded as improving women’s physical and spiritual health. I personally discovered this practice 3 years ago during a tantric women’s retreat in Thailand and I can honestly say, after using my yoni egg regularly, my vaginal health has drastically improved and my pelvic floor muscles are much better toned.
If you are new to this practice and want to learn what a yoni egg is, it really is a pleasure for me to introduce you to this very popular topic but before we start, let’s understand the term ‘Yoni’. In Sanskrit, ‘yoni’ refers to the entire female genital organ in its divine symbology of creative power and feminine energy. You may have heard the term when people talk about Yoni Massages for example, which is a massage focussing on he vagina.
What is a yoni egg?
Inherited from the Taoist tradition, the yoni egg is a semi-precious stone cut, carved and polished in the shape of an egg. It is designed to be inserted in the vagina to unlock many virtues for feminine well-being general and sexual health. They come in many different materials such as Jade, Opalite, Rose Quartz and even Obsidian, each with its own energy and benefits.
A brief history of yoni eggs
The history of the yoni egg dates back more than 5,000 years to ancient China. The Emperor requested for the Empress, as well as for the Emperor’s concubines, to use the yoni egg in secret, to strengthen their vaginas. The ancients also believed that using the energetic properties of the different stones such as Jade in the vagina would improve the body’s energy thus preserving youth and vitality.
Today the sacred use of the yoni egg is still very popular, with celebrities even using them and many women worldwide discussing the benefits of using them. Many ladies have celebrated the progress they have made by using Jade eggs to tighten and strengthen their vaginal walls after childbirth. Others enjoy the spiritual and health benefits these eggs bring.
Yoni Egg Benefits
The practice of using a yoni egg will work on 4 fundamental aspects: physical, emotional, energetical and spiritual. It allows you to better know your body, control your pleasure, take care of yourself and be secure in your sexuality.
-
Pleasure and self-confidence
The yoni egg helps open your sacred femininity. It contributes to your general well-being by promoting relaxation of the pelvic region and allows for a deeper intimacy with your own body. It stimulates your sexual energy and awakens your body for healthy sexuality.
-
Work and maintenance of the perineal muscles
The use of a yoni egg involves flexing certain muscles of the perineum to tone the muscles and increase sensation in the area. Yoni eggs can even prevent problems of incontinence by strengthening the vaginal muscles around the urethral opening.
-
Hormonal balance
A yoni egg balances the hormonal system and reduces menopausal symptoms, premenstrual syndrome and painful menstrual periods. This is done through the healing elements of the stone itself and the promotion of blood flow in the vagina that the egg creates
-
Mental healing
Last but not least, a yoni egg can help cure psychological suffering due to a traumatic sexual experience (e.g., in cases of rape, abortion, miscarriage, etc.) The way this is deemed to work is again through the positive energy and chi developed by the tone materials themselves.
How to safely use yoni eggs
It’s important to note that a yoni egg is not a sex toy so don’t expect an orgasm or incredible pleasure. The practice of the egg is a spiritual and sensory practice, which can also assist in perineal rehabilitation. Therefore the Yoni egg should be treated with respect to ensure your safety. Use my points below to show you how to use your yoni egg correctly and safely.

Preparing Your Egg
The first step is to become familiar with your egg. Keep it close to you as much as possible, carry it in your hands, charge yourself with its energy. You can also place it in contact with the vulva, without penetration. When you feel ready, sit comfortably in your bed. Start by relaxing and breathing deeply.
-
Inserting The Egg Correctly
The vagina is a door that can be opened in relaxation and softness. This is why it is important to let the body do its work naturally and not try to force the egg. There are two ways to insert your egg:
Just Let Go
Simply position the egg in contact with your lips, holding it with your hands or sliding it into your underwear. Then don’t do anything else. Don’t push the egg inwards, don’t try to put it inside you. Just relax and let go. Your body will decide whether to let it in or not. This practice is recommended for beginners and younger women.
Try Some Stimulation
Start by caressing your whole body. Linger on the breasts, crotch, lips, clitoris. You can use organic coconut oil or a water-based lubricant to stimulate the body and facilitate the entry of the egg. Then place your egg in contact with the vulva. To increase the stimulation, place the egg still cold. If this is not comfortable for you, warm it in your hands before. The lips will gently open and slowly move the egg into the vagina.

Removing Your Yoni Egg
The removal of your yoni egg must be done gently and in a relaxed manner. Here is how to proceed:
Lay Down And Release
This is the most natural way to remove it. It is a pleasant process where the egg will come out quickly and you have just enough time to retrieve it with your hand. With more experience, you can slow down the descent, which requires a high level of mastery.
Use The Cord
Beginners generally start with a pierced egg, which allows the insertion of a cord to handle and retrieve the egg more easily. It is reassuring to have a cord attached when you are a beginner. Use neutral dental floss as your cord. Simply guide the egg to the exit by pulling gently on the end of the cord. Relax, breathe and let the egg pass through. After use, remove and discard the string.
If the egg doesn’t go down or you can’t get it out, don’t worry. It is never stuck! You can wait and try again later. Otherwise, squat and contract your muscles slowly, without forcing and the egg will be expelled.
Yoni egg exercises
Yoni egg exercises are an excellent way to strengthen the vaginal muscles and tighten your yoni overall. These yoni texcercise techniques can improve your orgasms, restore pelvic strength after childbirth and even help treat incontinence. The exercises below are intended to last 15 minutes or less however you can extend the routines once you become more experienced in the exercises themselves.
-
Kegel Exercises
Kegel exercises are pelvic floor exercises. Once your yoni egg is inserted, sit down slowly into a cross legged position, and then fall onto your knees in a kneeling position. Next, flex your pelvic muscles around the egg. This squeeze is similar to the muscle contractions you make when you try to hold urine. Continue to squeeze the yoni egg for 10 seconds, then release for 10 seconds. Do 3 sets of 15 repetitions to start with.
-
Squats
Squat with your feet wider than hip-width. Engage your abdominal muscles and try to keep your spine and torso straight and stiff. Make sure your knees are not sticking out past your toes. Stand up to return to the starting position. Repeat the process. Do 2 or 3 sets of 12 repetitions.
-
Bridge
Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Then, move your feet away from your hips and align your ankles with your knees at a 90-degree angle. Inhale, engage the pelvic floor muscles and lift your hips. Hold this position for 10 seconds while keeping your breathing constant. Then lower your hips, exhale and relax your pelvic floor muscles.
-
Leg Lift
Lie on your back, legs straight and together, hands under your buttocks to engage your lower back against the floor. Slowly lift your legs off the floor until they form a right angle with your hips. Hold this for a few seconds then slowly lower your legs to the floor. Repeat the exercise at a slow, steady speed. Do 2 or 3 sets of 10 repetitions.
-
Plank
Start with your shoulders directly above your wrists. Keep your arms straight, and keep your neck in line with your spine – creating a straight line to the top of your head. Push your heels back to straighten your legs and prevent your hips from sagging. Engage your abdominal muscles and hold the plank for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
How do I clean my yoni egg?
When using for the first time and after each use, it is necessary to carefully clean your yoni egg. Wash the egg thoroughly with mild soap, then place it in water and boil the water. Let it boil for 10 minutes to sterilize it (but never boil a quartz yoni egg which could crack). After each use, take care to clean it properly with warm water and mild soap. For pierced eggs, remove the string and throw it away.
Energetic cleaning should be done too. After use, the stone can be “charged” with energy. To reset it, it is important to remove these energies from the stone. There are 3 ways to do this:
- Bury it in the ground near a plant.
- Let it soak in water, in which you can add white clay and a drop of essential oil of lavender.
- Light sage to purify it.
How long can I leave my jade yoni egg in?
It is best to use your yoni egg every day or at least three times a week in the beginning to reap the ultimate benefits. If you only use it once a week or once a month, chances are that you will not notice any changes in your pelvic floor, orgasm or sensitivity. For your first time, keep your yoni egg inside for 15 to 30 minutes to understand your body’s needs. If you experience any pain, remove the egg immediately. Do not use the egg for more than 6 hours at a time. You may feel abdominal pain such as cramps if you keep the egg in for too long.
Can I sleep with my yoni egg?
Yes, you can fall asleep with your egg in your body. Some women, especially if they had children, can’t hold in the egg when standing up. If this is the case for you, start by using it in a horizontal position, either laying down or sleeping. The muscles will begin to memorise and become familiar with the internal weight.
What type of yoni egg is best for me?
Rose quartz, jade or obsidian yoni egg, which semi-precious stone to choose? Each one has therapeutic virtues and it is important to respect an order of use: start with a quartz yoni egg, then a jade yoni egg, and later when you are ready, use an obsidian yoni egg.
-
Rose Quartz Yoni Egg
This pink crystal is a stone of love and compassion. It soothes internal wounds by allowing the emotional release of difficult and/or painful sexual experiences.
-
Jade Yoni Egg
Jade is the stone of purity and wisdom. It strengthens the body’s natural self-healing abilities and stimulates the immune system. It unblocks the pelvic area and awakens sexual energy. Jade is particularly suitable for treating renal and urinary problems, such as incontinence.
-
Obsidian Yoni Egg
Obsidian is a Volcanic glass stone of clarification and balance. It helps to exteriorise the dense and negative areas anchored in the body in depth. It absorbs negative energies and releases resentment, anger, and fear. As a result, it allows for the liberation of buried suffering and anger.
